It is a compound found in cannabis and is the primary psychoactive compound among 140 discovered cannabinoids. In other words, it’s a psychoactive chemical that can pass the blood-brain barrier, creating the high experienced with consuming cannabis.

Delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol thc is the major psychoactive constituent

When inhaled, THC passes into the lungs and is absorbed into the circulatory system and enters tissues and brain where it alters neural chemistry resulting in a “high”.

A psychoactive effect from edibles takes slightly longer, as it takes time for them to pass through the digestive system and liver where enzymes transform THC into different compounds.

Here, they can eventually be passed into the bloodstream for processing.

People can experience “highs” differently, depending on the unique chemical and physical composition of individuals, and the way cannabis is consumed.

Eventually, THC leaves the brain and is carried back to the liver, where it is expelled.
