What are cannabis concentrates?
Cannabis Concentrates are highly potent THC and / or CBD extracts packaged in lip balm sized containers, capsules or a vape cartridge. Concentrates can be purchased as ingestible or inhalable products and are available in a huge variety of THC vs CBD potency combinations. As of October 2019, oils and capsules are reclassified as ingestible extracts.
Ingestible extracts: Drops, capsules, oil and sprays are taken orally or sprayed under the tongue, depending on the packaging design. When swallowed, ingestibles slow the onset of effects due to the time needed for digestion before compounds reach the bloodstream. Although there’s no limit on CBD, THC cannot exceed 30 milligrams per millilitre in oils, and capsules cannot exceed 10 milligrams per millilitre. Ingestible extracts are a smoke-free alternative to inhalable extracts and risks to lung health.
Inhalable extracts: Disposable pens, vape cartridges, shatter, resin and kief are all inhalable concentrates. Methods of inhaling include vaping, smoking joints, using vaporizers and dabbing.
Cannabis Concentrate types include:
Oil and Capsules: Oils are usually extracted with CO2 or butane, and come in cannabis vaporizer cartridges for non-complicated consumption. Not into vaping? Oils are available as ingestibles in liquid filled capsules or tinctures.
Hash and Kief: Hash is cannabis resin that can be smoked like regular cannabis with three to four times the potency. Kief is a powdery resin rich in trichomes (resin glands). The trichomes are shaken off the flower, and sifted through a screen for consumption.
Shatter and Wax: Shatter is an amber to honey coloured, glassy looking cannabis extract often processed with butane or hydrocarbon solvents and consumed by dabbing. Waxes are produced the same way, but softer due to molecule agitation in processing. If you’re new to cannabis, you’ll want to talk to our staff about dabbing, measuring and dosing shatter and wax concentrate before you try it.
Diamonds and Caviar: Pure THCA crystals are called diamonds. THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid found in raw cannabis. As the plant dries, THCA slowly converts to THC. When cannabinoids are purified and isolated, they form these crystalline solids and are usually dabbed. Cannabis caviar, also called moon rocks, are buds dipped in hash oil and rolled in kief. They can be very potent because of the high-quality strains used and the addition of kief.
